Origin Story (a.k.a. We’re fans of superhero stories)
Sauce creator Adam Russell began making a strawberry habanero sauce for family and friends in 2010. In 2018, Adam refined that recipe to the Strawberry Hell you know and love today.
When Adam started hearing folks call out to him on the street, “Hey, Sauce Guy!” he knew it was time to turn his passion into a business. And thus, Renaissauce® was born in Brooklyn in 2019, its name drawing on the themes of rebirth and the Harlem Renaissance. Our sauces combine a sweet and heat that can’t be beat.
Message from Adam Russell, Renaissauce® Owner/Creator
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved creating—art, design, cooking, you name it. I draw inspiration from my mother Evelyn and her parents Melvin and Sallie Russell. My grandfather was a talented electrician, my grandmother a fantastic cook and seamstress, and my mother a meticulous editor and writer. All were committed to learning new skills and creating high-quality products.
Those lessons remain with me and are what I strive to share with my children and the next generation—an entrepreneurial spirit, taking pride in my work, and a fierce determination to challenge myself. I’m committed to excellence in customer satisfaction and in the products I create. Most of my business comes from customers telling friends and spreading the word.
Renaissauce® is born in DC, raised in Brooklyn, and made in small batches. We’re black-owned and committed to lifting up the power of family and community. Thank you for being part of our story.
